Lillias August

Lillias August is a British artist known for carefully observed still life and landscape paintings, particularly watercolours inspired by the fenland landscape of East Anglia. She studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London, and History of Art and Design at Birmingham University. August’s work focuses on everyday objects and familiar surroundings, treating ordinary subjects with close attention and quiet intensity. She has been closely associated with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, serving as Honorary Secretary from 2014–2023 and as a Council member from 2014–2024. Her awards include the Baohong Artists’ Watercolour Prize (2020), the Frank Herring Prize (2006), and several other Royal Institute awards. August was Project Artist for the Suffolk Cathedral Millennium Project at St Edmundsbury Cathedral between 2000 and 2010, documenting the construction of the cathedral tower and vaulted ceiling through a major body of work and related publications.
