Nicholas Hely Hutchinson

Nicholas Hely Hutchinson is a British painter known for lyrical landscapes and atmospheric scenes inspired by the countryside and coast of southern England. His work often combines expansive skies, dramatic weather, birds, animals, and distant figures, capturing fleeting moments of light and movement within the landscape. Born in 1955, he studied at St Martin’s School of Art and Bristol Polytechnic. Since his first solo exhibition in 1984 he has exhibited regularly in London, Dublin, and Hong Kong, and has been represented by the Portland Gallery since 1997. His paintings have also been widely reproduced in published prints, cards, and posters. Living in rural Dorset, Hely Hutchinson draws much of his inspiration from the changing seasons and the surrounding landscape, while travels to Venice, Paris, Cornwall, and the west of Ireland continue to inform his imagery.
