Anita Klein
(b. 1960)
Anita Klein is an Australian-born British painter and printmaker best known for intimate domestic scenes, self-portraits, and depictions of family life. She studied at Chelsea School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London during the 1980s, where she was taught by Stanley Jones. She is a Fellow and has previously served as President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Working primarily in linocut, etching, drypoint and painting, Klein’s work is characterised by direct observation, economical line, and gentle humour. Her compositions frequently depict everyday moments: interiors, relationships, bathing figures, and artists’ studios, drawing on traditions of European figurative printmaking while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility. Eames Fine Art staged a major retrospective of her work in 2022.
