Ljerka Njerš
(b. 1937)
Ljerka Njerš is a Croatian artist, printmaker, and ceramicist whose work is inspired by landscape, folklore, and the Adriatic coast. Born in Zagreb, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, where she later became a professor of ceramics and printmaking. Her work spans painting, ceramics, illustration, and graphic art, often characterised by bright colour, decorative pattern, and stylised natural forms. Njerš has exhibited widely in Croatia and internationally, and is particularly recognised for her contributions to ceramic art and artist books. Alongside these practices, she produced lithographs and other graphic works that reflect her interest in texture, atmosphere, and Mediterranean light.
