Ingrid Rosell

(1928-2010)

Ingrid Rosell was a Swedish painter, printmaker, illustrator, and cartoonist best known for her book illustration and graphic work. She studied at Anders Beckman’s School of Advertising, Académie Libre, and the Gerlesborg School in Bohuslän, and also worked privately with the sculptor and painter Bror Hjorth. During study trips to Italy and France she continued her printmaking studies, including work with the influential printmaker Johnny Friedlaender in Paris. Rosell participated in the Nationalmuseum exhibition Young Illustrators in 1948 and later in the exhibition of Nordic book illustration at the National Library of Sweden during the congress of the Association of Nordic Illustrators in Stockholm. She worked extensively as an illustrator for fiction and children’s books and also designed book covers. Alongside illustration, Rosell produced independent graphic works including figure studies and landscapes executed in aquatint, drypoint, and linocut. Her drawings and cartoons appeared in publications including Dagens Nyheter, All världens berättare, Utsikt, Industria, Textilia, Bonnier’s Monthly Magazine, and Folket i Bild.
