Jasia Szerszynksa

(b. 1955)

Jasia Szerszynska is a British artist and printmaker trained at Goldsmiths’ College, London. She first exhibited internationally in Tokyo while living for an extended period in Hong Kong, and has since shown work throughout Europe and Asia. Drawing and mark-making form the foundation of Szerszynska’s practice. Her work developed from the use of graphite and charcoal into increasingly simplified and gestural brush-and-ink drawings, often made directly in the landscape. Rather than recording places literally, her work seeks to capture what she describes as 'the patterns of man’s mark on the land.' Szerszynska’s work is held in collections including Manchester City Art Gallery, the British Council Japan, the Bank of England, Courtaulds PLC, Galileo UK, and the Paintings in Hospitals collection.
